Trip to Zell am See
The charming alpine town of Zell am See, surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop, is the perfect destination for a varied day trip. Trip to the Kaprun high mountain reservoirs
At around 2,000 meters above sea level, nestled between the mighty rock walls of the Hohe Tauern, lie the impressive Mooserboden and Wasserfallboden reservoirs. Even the journey by bus or on the Lärchwand inclined lift is an experience in itself, offering breathtaking views of the alpine landscape.
A highlight is the dam wall tour at the Mooser Dam. On the 107-meter-high and almost 500-meter-wide dam wall, visitors gain fascinating insights into the inner workings of the structure. The approximately one-hour tours take place daily from 10:00 am to 3:15 pm and turn the excursion into an unforgettable experience.
Visite to the Ferleiten Wildlife and Leisure Park
The Eisriesenwelt Werfen is considered the largest ice cave in the world—an underground labyrinth of impressive ice formations, vast halls and mystical passageways high above the Salzach Valley. Reached by cable car and a footpath, you’ll experience on a guided tour at around 0 °C magical ice palaces and crystal-clear shapes; warm clothing and sturdy shoes are essential. Usually open from May to October and ideal as a day trip from Maishofen—an unforgettable nature experience in any weather.

With a 380 m drop, the Krimml Waterfalls are Austria’s highest: three impressive tiers, thundering water and a fine mist along the well-maintained waterfall trail. Most impressive from spring to late autumn (especially powerful during the snowmelt) and easily reached as a day trip from Maishofen. Käfertal Adventure Trail
The Käfertal nature adventure trail opens up one of the most impressive high valleys in the Alps. At over 1,100 m above sea level, more than 300 beetle species, nearly 200 butterfly species, and numerous wild animals can be found here.
This stroller-friendly path starts at the Tauernhaus Ferleiten inn and extends about 4 km with a gentle incline to the head of the valley. Interactive stations and information boards reveal fascinating details about the valley; a highlight is the water playground with a rope ferry and Kneipp facilities. With Lucky’s stamp pass, children can explore the local flora and fauna in a playful way.
Hohenwerfen Castl
Hohenwerfen Castle towers high above the Salzach Valley and ranks among the most impressive fortresses in the Salzburg region. On guided tours you’ll explore the castle museum, historic chambers and mighty fortifications – a highlight is the birds-of-prey flight demonstrations in the courtyard.
