The Painter Anton Faistauer

An Artist in Maishofen (1887 - 1930)

Anton Faistauer was born in St. Martin bei Lofer and spent his childhood and youth in Maishofen. After his eventful life, which he dedicated exclusively to art and which brought him numerous prizes and honours, he died in Vienna at the age of only 43.
 Hie last resting place is in the cemetery of Maishofen.

Faistauer succeeded in an international breakthrough, with the fresco design of the Salzburg Festspielhaus (1926. The artist is mentioned in the same breath as contemporary painters such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and Paul Cézanne.

In 2010, upon the initiative of the Anton Faistauer Forum and the Maishofen Tourist Association, the 8 km long "Anton Faistauer Hiking Trail” was created. The trail leads from the town centre to Prielau, Mayrhofen and Schloss Kammer and illustrated the special relationship of the artist to Maishofen at 10 stations.
